All students are encouraged to improvise and compose. It's a great way to enjoy being creative at the piano and learn how music works.
If you have a particular interest in writing your own music, structured composition lessons are a great way to learn the fundamentals of harmony and counterpoint.
Yes. Anyone is welcome to try a taster lesson with no obligation to commit to further lessons. If you enjoy the lesson and would like to become an Oxford Piano School student, we'll work out a regular weekly slot for you and ask you to sign the terms and conditions.
Lessons are currently priced as follows:
£26 - half hour
£38 - 3/4 hour
£50 - hour
Fees are subject to annual review as laid out in the terms and condidtions.
There is no set minimum age required to start lessons. Oxford Piano School understands that children develop at different rates. However, If your child is aged 6 years or under, an initial consultation lesson is offered to see if your child is ready to start formal lessons.
Yes. Upon request, Oxford Piano School is happy to show an enhanced DBS certificate for working with children and vulnerable adults.
No. All lessons are taught on a modern baby grand piano in a home studio. Parents are welcome to sit in on any lesson. This is encouraged for young students and compulsorary for children under 7. Lessons are taught by Joe Burgess, who has an enhanced DBS for working with children and vulnerable adults.
Yes. Although payments are made for each term in advance, Oxford Piano School offers lessons by arrangement during the holidays to anyone who would like to continue.
